There's no way to mark the passage of time after lights out, but it isn't long before the lightbulb in your bedroom flickers back to life, although the door remains locked. The panel with the cartoon animal painted on your wall slides up to reveal a hidden screen behind it; it has the look of something like a slot machine.

You'll have to make an important decision tonight, and quickly; you only have an hour to decide before the power abruptly goes off again.

[Each time you look at the screen in your wall, a smiling cartoon animal says, in a robotic voice: ]

Congratulations, Missile! You have been chosen to be the K-9 Detective! As the detective, your job is to investigate and find out who the killers are! Please choose which player you will investigate.

Any questions?

[On the first night, instead of its usual speech, the cartoon animal says: ]

Congratulations, Missile! You will get to play in an exciting and special game! Each night, a group of our special VIP guests will meet and decide to kill someone. Every day, the other guests will attempt to discover the identities of these VIP guests and execute one of them!

You have been given a special role to help protect your team! Would you like to learn more?

[ This doesn't sound like a game, games are fun, why are you calling it a game!!

[Reading the following out loud: ]

Detective: Every night, will learn the alignment (guest or special guest) of one player. Will also be alerted whenever there's a successful conversion.

That's you, Missile! Pick someone, and then you can help everybody!

[ Gosh, a detective! Just like Miss Lynne! He should have listened more when she talked about being a detective.

Missile's met a bunch of people, and there's really mostly one person he's not sure if he likes or doesn't like. It would be good to know if the man with the long purple scarf or the girl with the short purple coat are okay after all, but if they're not, he doesn't think he could take it!

So when it comes down to it... it would be good to know whether he can trust that big metal man who picked him up or not! ]

[ Oh, this is so hard...! Missile is a brave little dog, but picking someone who's been feeding him and petting him and learning that they've been killing people, that would be too much! And there was all that business with someone else saying they were the detective somehow, and it's not like he can say anything about that except bark!

...Oh... there was that fierce and screeching girl who was all about protecting people. Missile likes her, but he doesn't feel protective of her the way he does about the younger friends he's made. Even if she does turn out to be bad... someone who cares about protecting people might be okay with dying for it! Missile certainly would be!

He's not sure he'll be able to even growl at her if it does turn out she's killing people. He really hopes she isn't, though!! If he can get her and K working together... somehow... Then maybe they can help him decide who to pick!

[ This really is almost the worst thing that could happen! Way more people are dying, AND the one person he knows is okay might not be okay now after all! And now there's a fake detective running around and he can't say anything about it! This isn't fair!!

It's settled! He has to do something about it!

...Barking at Edea would be an okay plan if it was only her, but if he's one of the only people who can find all however many VIP people there are, everyone would be in a lot of danger if they killed him because of it! And he'd be dead and wouldn't like that much, and even worse, he wouldn't be able to go home to Miss Kamila! ]
