night role - medical team

dreamland medical team

There's no way to mark the passage of time after lights out, but it isn't long before the lightbulb in your bedroom flickers back to life. In Sheba's room, the panel with the cartoon animal painted on your wall slides up to reveal a hidden screen behind it; it has the look of the like a slot machine. In Kenny's room, the door unlocks and a path leading to Sheba's quarters lights up with a dim glow. Any attempts to veer off this path or approach any other room will cause his bracelet to start beeping rapidly. For tonight, Sheba's door will unlock to Kenny and Kenny only.

You'll have to make an important decision tonight, and quickly; you only have an hour to decide before the power abruptly goes off again.

Heh.

[ looking at her. ] ...You okay?

...

[She shrugs.]

I don't think any of us are okay.

[ ...he puts a hand on her shoulder. ]

We're gonna make it through this thing. It's gonna be fine. We... we owe it to everyone who died here to make it.

[She doesn't shrug his hand off her shoulder, at least.]

...I'd like to think that's true. It seems a little unfair, though. [Her eyes close and she heaves a heavy sigh.] We might actually make it out of this alive, even though we're guaranteed to die as soon as we get targeted. But somehow... we never were.
chronic: (but please keep my mind asleep)

Look, you can't... You can't just see it as 'unfair'. Nothing we do now will change the past. We can only look into the future, uh, and shit like that. [ eloquent, he is not. ] It's... it's pretty much a waste of living if you don't treasure that. However we got here... it'd be a huge fucking shame to spend it in regret. It'd dishonor the dead... That's what I think, anyway.

...you're really wise for a ten-year-old, you know that?
chronic: (how long must i wait)

[personal profile] chronic 2014-10-11 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
No, it's not that. I'm not that smart. It's just that I've, y'know... I've been there. A lot.

But thanks.

No, thank you. I'm glad we're partners on this. [She smiles.] We've had a lot of ups and downs here, but... I'm grateful I got to meet you, Kenny.

[ he turns bright red. most girls aren't genuinely nice to him like this and it's weird. ]

Y-yeah. You too. Maybe we can stay friends after all this somehow.

We've been through too much not to, don't you think?
