[It's in the dead of the night when Dipper's door abruptly unlocks. His bracelet begins to beep. Something seems to be calling him, ordering him to leave his room. For every moment he delays, it beeps with more and more urgency, especially if he tries to bring anything. And besides, he feels groggy, not inclined to protest much. Shortly after, Mahiru's door also unlocks, and she's led to the park behind him.

As he steps outside, lights illuminate the path. The lights lead into the park. As soon as either one steps through the door into the park, the door slams shut. It won't open for again, and pounding on the door or calling for help will not yield any results. It's only once inside that the grogginess wears off.

You can run or try to hide, but there's not much use to it. Your bracelet is still beeping, the only obvious sound in the darkness. And though you're not restrained, you'll find there's no way you can strike a blow against the killers; the bracelet will tighten and you'll feel the grogginess return if you try to fight back.]

[Easily following, she sits down with him, huddling close.]

I...I think we both need to calm down first. I mean we can't figure things out if you're sweating everywhere and hyperventilating, Dipper.

[terci]

B-but w-why would they want to target us?! W-Were we on their trail or something?!! I-I-I didn't think they'd kill us over a few theories! [His hands go up to his temples as he panics, obviously not trying in the least to calm down.]

[ineptus]

Dipper calm down! [Mabel reaches out, letting go of his hand so she can take his shoulders and shake him a little.] You need to calm down and breathe first! If you pass out because you stopped breathing you're just going to be a sitting duck!

[terci]

[The shaking gets him to focus a little, but it's no enough to completely calm him down. He'll try though..]

Y-you're right, you're right. Sorry... [Mabel he's so confused and so scared..]

[ineptus]

Okay...good. Deep breaths.

[With another deep breath of her own, she drops her hands but only so she can take his.]

...Dipper, I have to tell you something, okay?

[terci]

[He takes a few deep breaths as instructed and watches her take his hand, the look on his face curious but also worried.]

...what? [What could she possibly have to tell him in a moment like this..]

[ineptus]

[Squeezing his hands, she manages a smile.]

First that everything is going to be okay. Second...I was converted last night.

[terci]

....you what? [That's said in barely a whisper as his eyes widen, realizing what his sister just told him.]

You what?! [He rips his hands away from hers and looks to his wrist, then to hers, as something clicks.]

Your bracelet isn't going off! Y-you're... you're not here because you've been targeted too you're...! [His words cut off, unable to finish his sentence. In fact, just the thought of it... his own sister being one of the bad guys.. it makes the bad feeling in his stomach tighten, and he moves back a few feet from her, unable to even process his feelings or thoughts at the moment.]

[ineptus]

[Mabel keeps the smile plastered on her face, reaching out after him with one hand.]

No, no, no, no it's okay! It's okay and everything's going to be alright! Calm down, okay? We're the good guys!

[terci]

You're.. you're killing people, Mabel! HOW DOES THAT MAKE YOU THE GOOD GUYS?! [He smacks her hand away, his lips quivering. He felt confused, and betrayed. His own sister? Trying to convince him the people killing were good guys? It didn't make any sense...]

[ineptus]

[Her expression falters, but comes back full force only moments after, tears threatening the corners of.her.eyes.] I know you probably won't understand...or believe me, but you have to trust me! After everything we've been through you have to trust me. We're just waking everybody up! It's not the best way to do it, but it's the only way that works apparently?

So you'll be waking up with the others and you can say hi to Hiko and everything will be fine!

[terci]

Waking up? Waking up?! [What was she even saying?]

We're not dreaming, Mabel! I don't know what the VIPs told you after converting you, but this is real life! Those were real bodies, and real deaths! [He can't even believe what was happening right now. He thought Mabel of all people would understand the seriousness of this situation.. she was there with him during the investigation. She was there with him when her friend died. So why...?]

[ineptus]

[Shrinking back a little, Mabel places her hand in her lap and shakes her head.] They seem real but I promise everyone is okay! Dipper I wouldn't do this if I didn't believe you would be okay...

[terci]

Mabel..! Mabel you--! [He lets out a groan of frustration and stands up, before pacing back and forth for a few seconds, trying to collect his thoughts. He was so mad, so unbelievably mad. And so hurt.]

You always do this! [He stops after a pause and his hands reach up to his temples again, and he closes his eyes shut.] You-- you promised you wouldn't do anything dangerous! And yet you went and did this!

[His eyes open again, and she can see even in the dark just how wet they were. Though, she could probably tell he was beginning to cry just by the shakiness of his voice as he yelled.]

We could've.. I could've figured out another way to get us both safe! But you-- you decided to just kill me, your own brother!! Because of what someone else told you!

[ineptus]

[...this was harder than she thought it would be.]

That's not fair.

[He wasn't the only one crying, her voice cracking slightly as she spoke.]

Dipper how many times have I followed you into dangerous situations? How many times have you done or caused something dangerous that I was forced to be a part of? I always trusted you, that you'd get us out of it. That we'd be fine.

Why can't you trust me? This isn't something they told me. This is something I just...know! I just know it will turn out okay!

[Let's not even tackle the accusation that it was her decision alone to kill him.

Mabel looks up at him, tears starting to trickle down her cheeks, and she's clearly scared too. But she's also determined.]

I-- [He starts to yell again, to bring up how ridiculous she was being, but seeing her tears makes his words stop in his throat. She was a little right, about how he always caused dangerous things to happen to the two of them, but he never went as far as this...

He tries swallowing the lump in his throat a few times, before speaking up again, talking slowly so she would understand.]

I could have gotten us out of this, too. I could've found a way for us to win, without any crazy ideas of us having to die! W-why didn't you just convert me?! I would've helped! [His voice cracks quite bad when he says the word "helped"]

Heck, I would've helped even if I was still innocent! I would've made fake evidence a-and I would've tried to make everyone think it was someone else... I would've done anything to make it so you were safe because... B-because...

[terci]

[There was a pause, as he choked down a sob. The tears couldn't be held back anymore, and his voice was trembling just as much as his arms were.]

B-Because I love you, Mabel! I-I love you more than mom or dad or G-Grunkle Stan or even Wendy! [He plops back down onto the ground.]

Y-you're my twin sister, w-we've been through so much together a-and I'll never b-b-be able t-to.. to live w-without you! I-I wanted to win this with you, Mabel! And now...! [He covers his eyes with his hands, his voice quieting down with his words.]

It d-doesn't even matter anymore. I'm going to die, and w-we'll never see each other again.

[ineptus]

[This was an awful idea and she's regretting every moment. It's not even the killing that's hurting her, she could kill him just fine! It's all of...this. All of Dipper being upset and hurt and disappointed in her. Even though she knows it's for the best - she knows it's for the best - this is so hard. So much harder than she thought it would be.

She can't even speak at first, curling up instead and resisting the urge to hide in her sweater. Because she couldn't take all night and hiding wasn't going to help anything right now. And she could ask for help, but she didn't want to betray him any more than she already was...]

I-I--

[She clears her throat, wiping at her eyes though ultimately it doesn't help her crying at all.]

I l-love you t-too. I-it's n-n-not--

[As much as she wants to explain, she can't get the words out, opting to continue crying into her knees instead.]

[terci]

.....

[..the sad thing is, even though Dipper was so hurt and so mad.. seeing Mabel like this made him feel terrible. He felt so guilty for making her cry, even though he wasn't the one in the wrong here. Even though his life was on the line. And he hated it, but it's just how he is.

After a minute or so of silence, he gets onto his knees and crawls over to her, before wrapping his arms around her in a hug.]

...i-it's fine. L-let's just.. g-get it over with...

[ineptus]

D-Dipper...i-it's not...what you think. M-M-Mahiru was talking with the b-buddy cops and everyone thought th-that that was a problem...and you're buddies, so...

[Her fingers curl into his vest.]

I-I want to play with you longer! I don't want you to go! Not yet...we all have to eventually but I d-don't think I could stand to do this l-later...

[Even as she lets go and pulls out her poison, she still wipes at her eyes and goes back for another hug, this time squeezing him tight.]

A-and I love you more than anyone ever! P-p-please don't ever think differently...please.

[It's a few moments of silent tears and hugging before she finally lets him go and shows him the needle.]

....wh-where...uh. Wh-where do you want...this? [The least she can do is give him a choice.] I th-think it has to be under your cl-clothes.

[terci]

[He was going to say something, to comfort her and reassure her that he didn't care anymore (he did), but once he saw that needle he instinctively backed up a foot or two.]

W-w-w-why do you have th-that?! [MABEL YOU MUST KNOW YOUR BROTHER HAS A FEAR OF NEEDLES]

[ineptus]

[THAT'S WHY SHE'S ASKING.]

W-well. We figured poison would be e-easiest... [Here she manages a half-hearted laugh.]

W-would you rather I bludgeon you to death? Or p-push you off a ride or something?

[HUMOR IN THE FACE OF DEATH...THIS WILL MAKE THINGS EASIER.]

[terci]

N-No?! [That sounds utterly terrifying please don't push him off a ride or smash his skull in.

He looks to the needle and lets out a little bit of an upset whine though, despite knowing this probably would be the easiest way to go.]

..How fast working i-is that p-poison? [He better not die of a slow, painful tummy ache]

[ineptus]

It's a fast working poison! N-nobody...really wanted to do something horrible to you. They were all thinking more for you than Mahiru! So you'll be fine...you probably won't even get to count to three!

[She offers him her hand to hold.]

..o..okay.. [He wipes at his eyes a few times before putting his hand in hers.]

Then.. then I guess it'd be smart t-to inject me somewhere like the st-stomach or my side or s-something so no one will find it easily? [He's assuming that's why she said it needed to be under his clothes earlier..]
